Did you wake up today thinking it was a normal day, a normal weekend?…then you went to school and everyone’s buzzing about how excited they are for tomorrow because it’s prom and your first thought is..Wait. Tomorrow? But I thought it was next weekend.. and you start to panic because you don’t have a dress, let alone the accessories and what are you going to do with your hair and makeup? Well, I have a solution for you. In this look, I chose a simple dress so that it would be easier to pick out the accessories. I looked at the color of the dress and thought a light silver would go perfectly. So I chose these chandelier earrings which automatically dress up this dress. The bracelet goes perfectly because of the crystals and it looks fancy as well. Even though the ring isn’t the same color as the other accessories, it still works because it’s a hue of silver. And with this ring you have a statement and the flower goes with the intricate pattern on the earrings. For the clutch, I chose something simple in shape, but became more fancy because it’s very glittery. For the heels, I chose a pair of sparkly light silver strappy heels since it goes with the delicate look of the dress.
So here are some tips when you shop for your dress and accessories tonight:
For the dress: head on over to JCPenney’s or Macy’s and look for a dress that’s a simple silhouette and in a simple, or muted color so that it will be easier to find the perfect jewelry, heels and clutch. That being said, you don’t have to follow this guideline perfectly, if you want a bold dress, I say go for it!
For jewelry: Think of what colors would complement your dress: if you bought a dress that is a darker hue of purple, gold or silver both go with that color, for a lighter purple, I would say go with a light silver, or any silver. For lighter shades of blue, silver as well, and for darker shades, silver and gold if you really want to make a statement. A mint green? Light silver works best, if you have darker shades of green, a darker gold or a midtone gold would look pretty, for pink I would say silver, for red gold, tones of yellow or orange I would say gold as well. And one tip for jewelry, if you really want to make your simple dress look like a million bucks, add a statement piece and it will automatically transform your dress.
For heels: go with the same color as your jewelry is all I can say, and you can choose whether you want strappy heels or pumps.
For the clutch: go with the same color as the rest of the accessories, and same as the heels: whatever shape pleases you.
Do you have pin straight hair and want something different? Maybe a little more volume? Using a dry shampoo and teasing it at the roots will help, or you can ask any of your friends or cousins if they have a curler and if you could borrow it.A high sleeked back ponytail also looks really pretty, and if you already have pin straight hair, you don’t have to worry about frizz or how to make it completely smooth. Not really a ponytail type? No worries, you could take two sections from the front and braid them back for a Grecian style. If you have curly hair, a side bun looks stunning because your curls will be in a nicely shaped form and it’ll look like it took hours when in reality you only used a hair tie. Not much of a bun person? Take some smoothing cream, or if you have the chance to buy the tresseme curls cream or the garnier smoothing milk that I posted in my last post, you can get them. For the tresseme one, wash your hair, put the cream in, brush your hair out, scrunch your hair and your good to go. For the smoothing milk, even on dry hair it works amazingly, just put a lot of it in your hair, avoiding the top part because it’ll just weigh down.
